Where to Go? #2 – Faro, Portugal

We’re having 8° around this region now. Suddenly, thoughts of the beach, of white sand and blue waters turned to just white landscape…snow. I’m still not ready for winter. As if fanning the flame that I am feeling, I’ve been seeing flights to Faro advertisements on blogs I visit…

Fueled with curiosity, I ended up finding the photo above. Pristine! Faro is a lovely district in southern Portugal, coincident with Algarve. It is one of the many perfect destinations for those who wanted to leave winter behind. Its coastal richness boast not only of beauty, fish and other fruits of the sea is an additional bonus for foodie travelers like me. Its tropical location is a big advantage as well…oranges, carob beans and almonds, Caldeirada (a stew consisting of a variety of fish and shellfish with potatoes, tomato and onion), Cozido à portuguesa (Portuguese stew) – these are on my list of  “what to eat” in Portugal!

Faro also hosts the largest motorcycle convention in Europe, a festival in its own right, the Faro International Motorcycle Rally.

Though I am not a motorcycle fan, it will be a delight to see those custom built bikes and their engines glimmer in the sunlight, amid the surrounding beaches, sparkling waters and luscious palm trees.

All in all, Faro is a lovely district worth to be written on my bucket list.
