Why do you plan a getaway every so often? Are you like most people who do so in order to get away from the frenzied city life? Let’s face it; the hustle and bustle of everyday life is enough to put a damper on your sanity. This is even truer if you live in a big city like New York. The fast-paced life coupled with unpleasant news reports would surely make you want to make a run for it on your next vacation leave.

To escape from the cudgels of city living, albeit for a short period only, most people go to faraway places that offer peace and tranquility. One such safe haven is Whitehaven Beach found along Whitsunday Island. Incidentally, Whitsunday Island is the largest among the seventy-four islands that make up the Whitsunday Group of Islands located off the coast of Central Queensland in Australia.

Whitsunday Island Whitehaven Beach

Visualize this: crystal clear azure waters, pristine silica sand, and a tropical rainforest. The vision paints a picture of paradise, right? That is bliss personified. That’s Whitehaven beach for you. Ninety-eight percent of the sand on this beach is pure silica sand, which according to Wikipedia, can be “used primarily in the production of glass for windows, drinking glasses, beverage bottles, and many other uses.” It’s not surprising, then, that silica sand was used in the production of the Hubble telescope.

Whitehaven Beach stretches over seven kilometers along Whitsunday Island. It is touted as the most photographed beach in the whole of Australia, and for good reason, too. It’s the very representation of nature at its striking best.

Here are some of the things that make Whitehaven Beach the picturesque getaway it is. At the northern end of the beach, you will see Hill Inlet, which is an astonishing cove where the natural flow and ebb of the tide shift the sand and water. As a result, a beautiful fusion of stunning colors is created. Pets are prohibited on the beach and smoking is not allowed, too. No wonder Whitehaven Beach has been named the most beautiful beach in Queensland. In fact, just a couple of years back, it was named the “World’s Top Eco-Friendly Beach” by cnn.com.

Of course, you can dabble into a couple of activities to enjoy the beach better. Aside from the usual snorkeling and diving (surfing is prohibited), you can go sailing, too. In fact, it’s a good way to immerse yourself in the beauty of Whitehaven beach. Sailing would help you discover many things about the beach and make the most out of your entire experience. You can even go sailing overnight, and see just how luxurious the waters and sand of Whitehaven are during the night. Otherwise, you can book a scenic helicopter or seaplane flight and fly over the beach for an amazing aerial view of the stunning waters of Whitehaven.

It’s not hard to enjoy a day in Whitehaven beach. Many companies offer day trips by ferry, powerboat, or luxury yacht. You could even go camping at the southern end of the beach.

There are many ways to enjoy Whitehaven Beach. One thing is sure, though; no matter what you do while on the beach, it is bound to be something you will remember for a lifetime.
